Frequently Asked Questions:

TIME

Is there a good and bad time of the year to get married in Fiji?

June – September is the best time of the year to travel to Fiji in terms of weather,  July and August are our ‘High Season’ which means you need to book well in advance as this is our busiest period of the year.  November - February is our Cyclone Season which means a lot of humidity and rain as well.

Is there a certain time of the day that is best for weddings?

It is entirely up to you, however it is certainly worth keeping in mind that Fiji is a hot tropical country so don’t forget to consider the heat when planning your wedding. If you are hiring a photographer ask them for a recommendation, they would most likely have shot at the resort before and will have a better idea of the best times to capture the images you want. A sunset ceremony is the most popular request we get.

How long in advance do I need to book in order to secure my Fiji Wedding?

The earlier the better, keep in mind the prices for hotels and all other services are released in March of every year and apply for that year until the following March. I would suggest start looking into things at least 12 months ahead, if you plan to get married during high season (July/ August) you need to book at least 8 to 12 months in advance if not longer to ensure you secure your date.

Keep in mind you need to factor in the time of sending out invitations, and often your guests will take a while before they book and pay for their accommodation etc so the earlier the better. The last thing you want is to book a hotel (particularly during high season) for your wedding then the majority of your guests can’t stay there because they left it too late and its booked out.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE IN FIJI TO BUY OR HIRE

Can we buy our wedding rings in Fiji?

Yes you can, we have jewelry shops as well however I would recommend buying this in your home country as you will have a wider selection to choose from.  As well as this, the process of deciding on rings can take a while so keep easy and buy before you come over.

Can we hire our bridal gear in Fiji?

At present there isn' however I am aware of a shop opening soon that will be hiring bridal wear, stay tuned.

Are there hairdressers and makeup artists available in Fiji?

Yes they are, most major hotels with have their own spa’s were this service is available. If you are staying at a smaller property that doesn’t have this option there are also mobile beauty services available. Check out my page on beauty for more details.http://www.fijiweddings.com/ceremony/fiji-bridal-beauty

Is there a time restriction in terms of having a live band at our reception?

Yes, most hotels will have a time restriction in terms of live band often it is 10 or 11pm, the hotel will advise you.  If partying the night away is important to you, the two options I would suggest that can get around that is 1. Party in a ballroom (sound proof) there are 3 major properties have excellent ballrooms perfect for a serious party. 2. Go for a smaller property and book the whole place out with your guests that way you will have a lot more flexibility with the hotel as you won’t be disturbing any guests because you will all be partying together.

This aspect is often looked over and as a result be a serious buzz kill in terms of flow of the event so it is definitely worth having a few discussions with, at the end of the day you know what type of couple you are and what type of guests you have. If partying is important then this aspect should also be an important aspect of deciding on your choice of wedding venue.

Can we hire a live band for our Wedding Reception?

Fijian people are blessed with great voices (mine not included) you will hear singing and guitars from the minute you arrive at the airport (if one of the serenading groups are on duty), we also have a few good bands that are available for hire in Fiji they generally do covers. Before booking I would recommend communicating what type of music you are looking for and if you have specific songs  it is worth checking with them to see if they are able to perform them, particularly your wedding dance.

Are there photographers available for hire in Fiji or should we bring in our own?

Yes there are photographers available for hire in Fiji raining from your very basic point and shoot type photographers through to Wedding Photographers who are experienced in Wedding Photography for tourists. I would recommend getting a photographer closest to the hotel that you are having your wedding at to reduce transportation costs etc, I say this as there are 2 photographers in Suva (Capital City ) 3 hours drive from Nadi, 4 photographers in Nadi and 1 in Savusavu all of whom are well known Wedding photographers. I do have a biased in this area, my younger brother Laurence is a Wedding Photographer. Besides the fact that he is my brother he is also reliable, easy to deal with and most of all he come’s in as one of the ‘most affordable’ of all Wedding Photographers.

You may wish to bring your own photographer with you but as you can imagine that will easily cost you triple the amount a local photographer would. (That money could be spent else where such as a full spa treatment in the lead up to your wedding.)

Can I get flowers in Fiji that are not native to Fiji?

Yes you certainly can, as they say at the right price anything is possible. Obviously this will cost more as it will have to be air freighted into the country but it certainly can be done. Our local experienced florists can easily organize this for you.
